Dreams Redefined CBO participated in a transformative training session focused on the concept of Utu (Togetherness). Discussions explored how Utu influences governance, social interactions, and community cohesion.
In collaboration with partners, Dreams Redefined joined a clean-up at Jubilee Market, Kisumu County. The team engaged market members on proper hygiene practices and sustainable waste disposal.
The organization participated in the "A Ride to Her Future" event from Kisumu CBD to Usoma Beach, raising awareness on gender-based violence, menstrual hygiene, and empowerment of adolescent girls.
Dreams Redefined CBO successfully hosted the Kisumu County Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Festival under the Afya Yetu, Haki Yetu Project at Nyalenda Health and Wellness Centre. The festival brought together county government representatives, health providers, civil society organizations, community members, and adolescent girls and young women for a powerful day of dialogue, service delivery, and advocacy.
At the heart of the festival were critical conversations on safe abortion and Post-Abortion Care (PAC). Participants accessed integrated, youth-friendly health services including family planning, PrEP, HIV testing and counselling, breast and cervical cancer screening, TB screening, wellness services, and PAC. A key highlight was an intergenerational panel discussion creating a safe space for honest conversations and informing a community-driven policy brief on reproductive healthcare in Kisumu County.
The festival also came alive through Artivism Photovoice exhibitions, spoken word, theatre, and storytelling where young people shared lived experiences, challenged stigma, and amplified marginalized voices.
The Strengthening Action and Women Agency (SAWA) Project a youth and women-led initiative implemented by Dreams Redefined CBO, supported by the AU–EU Youth Voices Lab in partnership with Restless Development officially launched in Kisumu County, Kenya. SAWA responds to the persistent underrepresentation of women in leadership and decision-making spaces, tackling systemic barriers including limited access to leadership opportunities, low awareness of governance processes, economic constraints, and harmful socio-cultural norms.
Through a holistic approach integrating leadership and governance training, mentorship and peer learning, economic empowerment, advocacy, and community dialogues, SAWA directly supports a cohort of 60 young women equipping them with the skills, knowledge, confidence, and networks to actively participate in and influence governance at community and county levels.
SAWA envisions a future where young women are not only included in governance spaces but are empowered to shape decisions, influence policy, and lead transformative change in their communities.
